Smart travel tips to save time and money

When you think of a trip, no matter what the destination, what you want is to have a great time, stay in a good hotel and, what's more, be cheap.

Achieving a perfect combination of these three elements is not easy, unless we "fish" for a travel offer, it is very difficult to get the three "B's": good, nice and cheap.

Due to the above, here are some tips for you to be able to holiday in a smart way, that is to say, that you can optimise and get the most out of your time, your money and not sacrifice the comfort you are looking for:

1.- Travel in low season

Travelling when most people work has its benefits. Flight tickets and accommodation are cheaper as well as the attractions you want to visit. This option does not apply to all places, as some, such as Paris, are among the most visited all year round.

2.- The hotel that suits you.

This is perhaps one of the most important points to consider during your trip. You don't always have to look for the cheapest option. It's all a matter of investing a little time, calling, quoting and seeing which one is the best.  Make sure your choice has a good location and preferably has breakfast and WiFi included.

3.- Choose local products

When we talk about these products we are referring to dishes, handicrafts, clothes and everything made in the place you are visiting. In the end you will support the community you visit and pay less tax than if you buy something imported.

4.- Travel light

It is best to travel with only one suitcase or backpack (unless you are visiting a place for more than 6 days). Factors to consider when choosing to travel light are:

-Weight allowed by the airline, plus travelling with a "carry-on" bag will economise your ticket.
-If you are travelling in a group and in a car, you will need to find space to accommodate it.
- If you have to walk somewhere, consider carrying your luggage to your next destination.
-Consider carrying only one suitcase if you decide to do your laundry on site.

5.- Take advantage of wireless internet

Save your data by using the internet at your hotel, a park, restaurant or cafe where you're staying. Use it when necessary and if you are travelling to a country, consider the different data packages that phone companies offer, but be aware that they are expensive.

6.- Research and plan

The best investment you can make during a trip is time, and when we mean time, we are talking about sitting down and researching what will benefit you the most for each trip or place you want to visit.  The more you know about the destination, the more you will be able to enjoy it when you are there.

7.- Look for the best discounts

Many attractions, restaurants and even hotels have promotions and discounts. Use them in case they are useful. Most museums offer one free admission day per month and all of them have special discounts for students, senior citizens, etc. Visit the websites of the places you want to visit and find out more.

Many attractions and hotels also have better rates online so consider buying some tickets in advance and/or booking your room online.
